Georgia Briggs is the Principal Solicitor at Briggs Law, bringing a diverse legal background with a focus on Criminal Law, Family Law, Children’s Care and Protection, as well as Wills, Powers of Attorney, Enduring Guardianships and Estates. Georgia earned a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Canberra, completing the degrees ahead of schedule in 2015. She then obtained a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice through the College of Law, majoring in Criminal and Family Law, and was admitted as a Solicitor of the ACT Supreme Court later that year. Georgia further advanced her expertise by completing a Master of Laws from the University of New England in 2021. In 2022, she was recognised as an Independent Children’s Lawyer, authorised to act in matters concerning the interests of children. Her legal career commenced in Criminal Defence, where she quickly gained recognition, being named among the top young Criminal Lawyers nationally. After experiencing prosecution work, Georgia returned to private practice, balancing Family Law and Criminal Law for a period before joining her family’s legal firm. Her commitment and skill have earned her and Briggs Law multiple nominations for excellence from the ACT Women Lawyers Association. Georgia is recognised for her strong advocacy skills, approachable nature and dedicated client service. She believes in achieving excellent outcomes through continual learning, passion and fostering trust and clear communication with her clients. In Criminal Law, Georgia handles matters including domestic and family violence, personal protection orders, drink and drug driving offences, assault, sexual assault, theft and drug-related charges. Her Family Law work covers domestic violence interventions, parenting issues, property settlements, binding financial agreements, divorce proceedings, spousal maintenance, adoption and child welfare and protection matters. Georgia also provides comprehensive advice and services relating to Wills, enduring powers of attorney, and enduring guardianships. She manages drafting documents, advising on capacity to sign, acting on urgent matters including hospital or nursing home attendances and assisting with issues arising from marriage or separation in the context of estate planning. In Estates practice, she assists clients in obtaining grants of probate or letters of administration across Australia, advising and acting on will disputes, estate claims and other related legal remedies. With a thorough understanding across these intertwined areas of law, Georgia is well-placed to provide practical and empathetic legal support tailored to the needs of her clients.
