Erskine Rodan

Erskine Rodan OAM has dedicated over 45 years to the legal profession, making significant contributions as a human rights activist and businessman in the process. His outstanding work in building one of Australia's leading immigration legal practices has earned him high regard within the field. As a former Chairman of the Migration Law Committee of the Law Council of Australia, he remains an active member, showcasing his dedication to immigration law. On 26 January 2009, Erskine received the Medal of the Order of Australia for his exceptional service to the legal sector, particularly through the Law Institute of Victoria, and for his advocacy for refugees and his community contributions. A graduate of the University of Melbourne in 1974, Erskine commenced his career at Slater & Gordon before gaining further experience and establishing his own practice in 1977. He played a pivotal role in the recognition of immigration law as a distinct practice area and was a founding member of what is now known as Refugee Legal. His service on the Council of the Law Institute of Victoria from 1984 to 2006 further highlights his commitment to the legal community. In 1992, he became an accredited immigration law expert with the Law Institute of Victoria. His work in advocating for human rights and immigration issues garnered a High Commendation Award from the Human Rights Equal Opportunity Commission. In recognition of his achievements, the Law Institute of Victoria honoured him with an Honorary Life Membership in 2007, alongside the prestigious Paul Baker Award for significant contributions to administrative and human rights law. Erskine is renowned among his peers as an authority in immigration law, known for his profound understanding of legislation and his skillful application of the law to assist clients.
