Hugh Griffin

Hugh Griffin is a renowned leader in corporate and commercial law, with a distinguished reputation in mergers and acquisitions as well as financial services and funds management law. In 2022, he was honoured as both Corporate and Financial Services Partner of the Year at the Australian Lawyers Weekly Partner of the Year Awards and is acknowledged as a leading corporate lawyer in the peer-reviewed Australian edition of Best Lawyers. Hugh has extensive experience working with a diverse array of clients, from leading domestic and international financial institutions to boutique and small cap companies, including some of the largest and most sophisticated clients globally. Hugh’s career includes significant tenures at top-tier firms Allen and Overy and Clayton Utz. A commercially astute lawyer, he provides timely, technically proficient, and pragmatic advice aligned with clients' broader commercial objectives. His ability to handle complex transactions and offer well-considered counsel in challenging situations has been consistently proven. Before founding Hazelbrook Legal, he practised at premier Australian and global law firms in Sydney, Canberra, and Hong Kong for over a decade and gained valuable in-house experience at leading financial institutions. Hugh holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours from the Australian National University. He is also a Fellow of CISI and an active member of the Law Council of Australia's Financial Services Committee.
