Xavier Hanckel-Spice

Xavier Hanckel-Spice is a dedicated lawyer known for his passion and expertise in criminal law. His journey began at the young age of 14, under the mentorship of John Weller, which inspired his pursuit of a legal career. Xavier attended the Australian National University in Canberra, where he not only excelled academically but also contributed by coaching Australian Federal Police in criminal court procedures, showcasing his commitment to the field even as a student. After completing his Juris Doctor in early 2021, Xavier briefly collaborated with John Weller before enhancing his experience at the Aboriginal Legal Service in NSW. His tenure in Redfern and Lismore deepened his understanding of legal issues faced by Indigenous communities. In 2023, he rejoined John, focusing on complex legal challenges, particularly in organised crime and drug-related cases. Since March 2025, Xavier has served as the Principal Solicitor at Spice Law in Byron Bay, where he continues to offer client-centred legal representation. His blend of experience and dedication positions him as a formidable advocate in the areas of criminal defence, committed to achieving the best outcomes for his clients.
