About Kylie
Kylie Ward is a seasoned legal professional with a distinguished career in both public prosecution and private practice. She holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business with a major in Public Relations from Queensland University of Technology. Admitted as a barrister to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2003, Kylie began her career with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. There, at just 23, she handled complex cases against senior counsel, including serious trafficking offences, bail applications, and murder. Kylie dedicated a decade as a Senior Federal Prosecutor with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, where she became adept in computer forensics and developed her skills dealing with the online exploitation of children. Her portfolio expanded to include large-scale drug importation cases and matters involving border-controlled substances and steroids. Her work involved intricate legal manoeuvres such as excluding evidence and confiscations, all conducted under the Commonwealth Criminal Code, Customs Act, and the Crimes Act. Following her tenure at the Commonwealth DPP, Kylie contributed her expertise at Crown Law focusing on dangerous prisoners and parole, and later as an applicant lawyer at the Director of Child Protection Litigation. She has appeared across Queensland's Magistrates, District, and Supreme Courts, managing high-profile cases including drug importation, serious fraud, murder, and sexual offences. Since transitioning to private practice in 2018, Kylie has expanded into Family Law, leveraging her extensive prosecution background to support her clients. As the principal of KA Criminal Law, established in January 2020, she brings her considerable knowledge and courtroom experience to serve her clients with dedication and acumen.
