Anton Block

Anton Block AM is a Principal Lawyer and Head of KCL Law’s Owners Corporation practice, bringing over 25 years of experience across owners corporation matters, commercial law, property, insolvency, trade practices, and building disputes. His in-depth knowledge spans the complexities of strata property, enabling him to provide clear and practical advice to owners corporations, their managers, and committees. Anton is often present at committee meetings to offer immediate, tailored guidance and regularly represents clients at VCAT in owners corporation disputes, working proactively to find effective solutions. In addition to his focus on owners corporation law, Anton plays a key role in KCL Law’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice. His extensive litigation experience encompasses commercial transactions, negligence, trespass, leases—including both commercial and retail—property contracts, trade practices, restrictive covenants, environmental matters, adverse possession, nuisance, building disputes, and insolvency. Anton approaches litigation with a strong emphasis on achieving his clients’ objectives. He collaborates closely with clients to define clear goals, develop strategic plans, and execute tailored solutions. His reputation as a problem-solver is further supported by his active participation in mediations, both as an advocate and mediator, helping parties reach resolutions outside of court. He is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Strata Community Association’s Victoria Division. Anton is an active contributor to the legal and owners corporation communities in Victoria and is frequently invited to share his insights at professional education seminars, reflecting his respected standing in the field. For his distinguished service to the Jewish community in Victoria and his contributions to the law, Anton was honoured in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours List, receiving the Member (AM) in the General Division. Anton Block’s areas of practice include providing strategic advice on drafting and implementing dispute resolution methods within owners corporation rules, interpreting and applying the Owners Corporations Act, representing clients at VCAT hearings and mediations, and offering immediate advice during owners corporation meetings. He also drafts pleadings and engages in wider litigation matters including bankruptcy and insolvency, building and construction disputes, commercial lease enforcement, contractual claims, debt recovery, franchise and licence issues, guarantees and indemnities, insurance disputes, negligence claims, partnership and joint venture matters, real estate litigation, small business disputes, and trade practices. Anton is also experienced in alternative dispute resolution through mediation. He was admitted to practice in 1996 by the Supreme Court of Victoria.
