Kate Pateman

Kate Pateman is the Director of klplegal, which she established in 2012, originally known as KLP Family Law. Her unwavering commitment to family law has propelled the firm to become one of North Queensland's leading and highly recommended law practices. Known for her pragmatic and straightforward approach, Kate is affectionately referred to as The Practical Lawyer. With over two decades of experience, she possesses an exceptional ability to envision outcomes and chart effective paths for her clients. Kate not only handles critical legal work but also provides strategic guidance on various matters. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws from James Cook University and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from QUT. She is an admitted Solicitor of both the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia and is trained in collaborative law. Kate has been recognised in Doyle’s List from 2016 to 2023 as a leading figure in family and divorce law in North and Central Queensland. In addition to her role at klplegal, Kate has held positions as a lecturer at The College of Law Australia and served as Senior Associate at Hartley Healy. Her earlier career included roles at Grace Law, North Queensland Women's Legal Service, and as an Associate at both Rod Madsen Solicitor and Hartley Healy. Kate's professional memberships include the Queensland Law Society, Family Law Practitioners Association, and the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. Her past roles include vice president of the North Queensland Women's Legal Service, showcasing her dedication to advancing the legal profession and community support. These days, Kate balances her professional commitments with her love for travel, often accompanied by her pug, Edgar, and maintains an active lifestyle.
