Matthew Tyrrell

Matthew Tyrrell is a Partner at Millwater Tyrrell Law, bringing over 16 years of diverse legal experience. Holding Bachelor Degrees in Law and Business from the Queensland University of Technology, Matthew began his career with the Queensland Department of Justice & Attorney General, which set the foundation for his extensive knowledge in legal practice. His experience has been shaped by working with leading commercial and structuring lawyers at a national level, further enhancing his expertise. Practising primarily in Commercial, Family, and Criminal Law, Matthew is well-versed in commercial transactions, structuring, insolvency, wills and estates, and has a deep understanding of military superannuation complexities in family law disputes. His legal acumen is complemented by his ability to approach client matters with a lateral mindset, recognising the nuanced needs of each situation. Matthew actively represents clients in State and Federal Courts across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Matthew's involvement with the Ipswich and Greater Springfield communities is notable, having served as a Board Member for the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. His broader commercial insight allows him to offer bespoke legal advice, whether assisting local clients with lease agreements or guiding business acquisitions with a focus on structuring and asset protection. Fluent in Chinese, Matthew's international exposure began at a young age when he lived and studied in Shanghai. Outside of his legal career, he is passionate about Rugby League and follows the Netherlands national football team closely. Matthew also enjoys the occasional flutter on horse racing, claiming a knack for picking the fastest.
