Matthew Yates

Matthew Yates is the Director of mylegal, a firm he founded in 2013. With a comprehensive background in commercial and employment law, Matthew has honed his skills through years of experience, starting his legal journey as an associate with various national law firms and managing the Sunshine Coast branch of a major firm. His transition into employment law was driven by a desire to serve clients more directly in this area, building a strong employment law arm within his practice. In commercial and business law, Matthew's experience spans from assisting startups to overseeing business sales, and he is well-versed in handling matters such as land sales, leasing, and business disputes. His property law practice covers a wide spectrum, representing both developers and publicly listed companies, and he takes particular interest in complex rural sales. Matthew is also passionate about guiding clients through wills and estates, offering expertise in estate planning and the administration of deceased estates. While he prefers to keep clients out of court, he is a formidable advocate when disputes arise. Matthew's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Queensland, and he has been a practising Solicitor in Queensland since 1997. Beyond his professional achievements, Matthew is dedicated to community service, having served as vice president of the 4556 Chamber, a member of the Sunshine Coast Chamber Alliance, and a volunteer at the South Brisbane Community Legal Service. His leadership roles extend to being president of the Townsville Community Legal Service and president of the Buderim Mountain Parents and Citizens Association, along with being secretary and treasurer of the Buderim Billiards and Snooker Club.
