Richard Shakenovsky is the Principal of Shakenovsky & Associates, a firm known for its commitment to immigration law, employment law, wills and estates, and commercial law. With extensive legal experience spanning continents and decades, Richard brings a nuanced understanding of diverse legal systems and client needs. Richard began his legal career in South Africa, where he completed his law degree at the University of Witwatersrand in 1980. Following his admission to the Supreme Court of South Africa in 1982, he established his own practice in Johannesburg’s central business district in 1984. His early years in law were marked by a broad legal practice and a dedication to human rights, reflected in his completion of a Diploma in Human Rights from Rand Afrikaans University in 1991. Richard further diversified his qualifications by successfully sitting the Israeli bar exam in 1987. In 1996, Richard relocated to Australia with his family, bringing a wealth of international experience. He initially worked with McCabe Brown Lawyers before qualifying as a migration agent through the University of New South Wales in 1997. Demonstrating his commitment to adapting and excelling within the Australian legal framework, he re-qualified as a lawyer through the Legal Profession Admission Board at the University of Sydney in 1999 and was admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Richard became a partner at Greenstein Shakenovsky Lawyers in 2000, where he worked with a dedicated team focused on client-centred service. His experience also extends to the corporate sector, having served as Australian Director of Retalix Australia Pty Ltd and later Shankman Holdings Australia Pty Ltd, companies involved in technology and property sectors respectively. Since founding Shakenovsky & Associates in 2008, Richard has focused on providing comprehensive legal services that meet the varied needs of his clients, blending professionalism with personal care. Beyond his legal career, Richard has a profound passion for endurance running and photography. He has completed over 100 marathons and ultra-marathons worldwide, including the demanding Golden Reef Hundred Miler in South Africa. As the founder of The Achilles Running Club, he promotes inclusive participation in running and walking for people with disabilities. His photography has taken him on adventures globally, reflecting his appreciation for diverse cultures and landscapes.
