Kerstin Thode is the Principal Solicitor and Director of Smart Choice Law, bringing extensive experience in Family Law and Wills, Estate Planning and Administration. A seasoned divorce lawyer, Kerstin is dedicated to helping families navigate separation while maintaining amicable relationships, striving to resolve matters outside of court. Having worked over a decade in the Coffs Harbour area, Kerstin is well-versed in the unique challenges faced by local clients. Originally from Germany, Kerstin practised law there before relocating to Coffs Harbour in 2002. Prior to qualifying as a lawyer in Australia, she gained valuable experience as a local mediator, further honing her skills in negotiation and dispute resolution. Kerstin is a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and offers mediation services. She is also accredited as a Break-up and Divorce Coach Practitioner, providing guidance and support to clients throughout the separation process. In her role as Principal Solicitor at Smart Choice Law since June 2018, she continues to specialise in Family Law and Wills and Estates. Previously, Kerstin worked with Michelle Harding Lawyer and gained foundational experience at Slater & Gordon under the mentorship of Heather McKinnon. Her background is supported by a robust educational foundation, including a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law, NSW, a Diploma in Law from the Legal Profession Admission Board at the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Hamburg.
