

Dr Virginia Marshall serves as the Principal Lawyer at Triple BL Legal, providing comprehensive legal services in areas such as native title, water rights, human rights, Indigenous intellectual property, and traditional knowledge. With her admission to practice in the Supreme Court of NSW, the Federal Court of Australia, and the High Court of Australia, Dr Marshall brings a wealth of experience, having commenced her career in criminal law. Since October 2019, she has been the instructing solicitor for the Mirning Aboriginal respondents in the Far West Coast Sea Claim. Her clients range from the National Native Title Tribunal to various Aboriginal organisations, businesses, and individuals. Her expertise in Indigenous legal issues is further reflected in her scholarly contributions and her role as a sought-after presenter at national and international conferences. Dr Marshall holds a doctorate from Macquarie University, where her thesis on Aboriginal water rights challenged prevailing paradigms and won the prestigious Stanner Prize. Her seminal publication, Overturning Aqua Nullius, advocates for water law reform to recognise Aboriginal interests. As a legal scholar, she has contributed to numerous journals and books on related topics. Beyond her legal practice, Dr Marshall is a respected academic, serving as a guest lecturer at distinguished institutions including the Australian National University, where she also holds a research fellowship. Her involvement extends to legal consultancy and training with organisations such as the Law Society of NSW. Dr Marshall's commitment to Indigenous rights and education is evident in her extensive work and recognition, including her pioneering role as the first Aboriginal woman to earn a PhD from Macquarie University's law school.
