Daniel Kovacs is the Principal Lawyer at KCL Law, bringing over 27 years of experience in commercial law with a focus on intellectual property. Daniel has built a strong reputation for delivering strategic, results-oriented advice across a broad spectrum of intellectual property matters including trade marks, copyright, patents, confidential information and passing-off. His client base includes prominent organisations in sectors such as fast moving consumer products, entertainment, publishing, finance, automotive, construction and pharmaceuticals. Daniel holds a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, and a Masters of Laws degree specialising in intellectual property. He is also a Registered Trade Marks Attorney, underscoring his comprehensive knowledge in brand protection. His expertise extends into competition and consumer law, entertainment and media law, information technology, privacy and e-commerce. Since joining KCL Law in 2006, after experience with three of Australia’s largest national firms, Daniel was appointed Principal Lawyer in 2014. He is recognised in the Doyle’s Guide as a leading lawyer across non-contentious and contentious intellectual property matters, as well as for technology, media and telecommunications law in Victoria. Daniel’s practice covers intellectual property and information technology law, including trade marks, marketing and branding commercialisation and enforcement, copyright, designs, domain names, confidential information and trade secrets, patents, IT procurement and licensing, and plant breeders’ rights. He also advises on commercial and corporate matters such as e-commerce, licensing, distribution, merchandising agreements, competition and consumer law, advertising clearance and trade promotions. Daniel regularly handles litigation and dispute resolution related to commercial disputes, intellectual property protection and privacy issues. His entertainment law experience includes author and composer agreements, film and television contracts, and music industry agreements. He is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria and the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand. Daniel was admitted to practice in 1996 in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
