Thao McKay

Thao McKay is the Principal Lawyer and Director at Merit Legal, bringing a wealth of experience and dedication to her role. She graduated with Honours in Law in 2011 and was admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 2012. Thao has worked with a diverse range of law firms, including a prominent national firm as well as boutique practices. Her varied experience has shaped her approach to delivering efficient and empathetic legal services tailored to her clients' needs. Drawing on her personal experience as a child of divorced parents, Thao is deeply committed to family law, supporting clients through the often challenging process of separation. She primarily handles property settlements and parenting matters. In addition to family law, Thao has substantial expertise in conveyancing and wills and estates, enabling her to provide comprehensive legal advice across these areas. With a strong vision for accessible and responsive legal support, Thao established her own practice before forming a partnership with Melissa Tsui. Outside of her legal career, she is studying Egyptology at Macquarie University and enjoys diverse interests including cheerleading, astrophysics, and gastronomy. Thao is also actively involved in the legal community, currently serving as Treasurer of the Eastern Suburbs Law Society.
