Teresa Sutherland

Teresa Sutherland is the co-principal and director of West Coast Legal, a prominent boutique Family Law firm based in Perth. After earning her Bachelor of Laws degree in South Africa, Teresa was admitted to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in February 2016. This was achieved following her completion of Bachelor of Laws equivalence studies at Edith Cowan University. She has been a dedicated member of West Coast Legal since her admission, focusing solely on Family Law. Teresa's expertise spans all facets of Family Law, with a deep interest in both simple and complex property settlements. Her approach is centred on resolving matters in a supportive and collaborative manner, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness. Understanding the potential stress of Family Law matters, Teresa is committed to partnering with clients, offering compassion and diligence throughout the process. While she emphasises mediation for its cost-effectiveness and reduced stress, her clients can rely on her steadfast presence should court intervention be required. Before joining West Coast Legal, Teresa gained invaluable experience as a law clerk with the Southwest Community Legal Centre and Legal Aid Western Australia. Her legal journey began in South Africa, where she worked in conveyancing at Bowmans, a respected law firm in Johannesburg. In her leisure time, Teresa is passionate about community service and enjoys spending quality time with her family, friends, and her Labrador, Bailey.
