David Elix

David Elix serves as the Principal at 1878 Elix Lawyers, where he has been instrumental in providing insightful commercial solutions since incorporating the firm in December 2011. Holding a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Business from Northern Territory University, David demonstrates a profound commitment to his clients and a deep understanding of their legal and business needs. His expertise in Building and Construction Law, underlined by his role as an adjudicator under the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act (SA), has led to significant achievements, including the preparation of a landmark claim under the Queensland Building and Construction Industry Security of Payments Act that resolved a major dispute without litigation. David's wide-ranging experience includes a pivotal secondment to a multi-national power service company, where he gained invaluable insights while working as part of a project management team on a significant infrastructure project. His legal acumen extends to advising on contracts for major projects like the new Royal Adelaide Hospital and the Adelaide desalination plant. In addition to his construction law prowess, David is well-versed in Insolvency and Bankruptcy matters, having represented liquidators and trustees, as well as prosecuting and defending preference claims. His proficiency in property law is evident from his advisory role to one of Australia's leading property developers and his extensive experience in commercial leasing matters across Australia. Before entering private practice, David applied his skills as a project manager with the Northern Territory Major Events company, contributing to the inaugural V8 Supercar events in Darwin. Outside of his professional life, David enjoys sailing, having embarked on an adventurous journey from Puerto Vallarta to the Marquesas Islands, and is deeply involved with the Northern Territory University Football Club as a Life Member, while also supporting the Port Adelaide Football Club.
