Ian Charman

Ian, admitted to practice in 1987, is a distinguished member of Adelta Legal, bringing over three decades of invaluable experience to the firm. Since joining Adelta Legal in October 2018, he has notably contributed to the expansion of the firm's Family Law Section. Previously, Ian successfully operated his own practice for 18 years, providing him with a deep understanding of the legal landscape in both Adelaide city and Gawler. Ian is one of the few Accredited Specialists in Family Law in South Australia, underscoring his proficiency in this complex area of law. Additionally, as a qualified Independent Children’s Lawyer, Ian is regularly appointed to advocate for the best interests of children in intricate family law cases. His skills as a persuasive advocate are frequently utilised in appearances before the Federal Circuit and Family Courts. A former member of the Law Society’s Family Law Committee, Ian has actively contributed to the legal community by writing and presenting educational papers for fellow legal professionals focusing on Family Law. His involvement extends to the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia and participating in a panel discussion at the National Conference of Independent Children’s Lawyers.
