Omar Juweinat

Omar Juweinat began his legal career in 2003 as a researcher to Peter Hamill SC, now a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. From 2007 to 2009, he practised with the Aboriginal Legal Service across the Dubbo, Bourke and Sydney regions, gaining extensive experience working with diverse communities and jurisdictions. With nearly two decades of experience, Omar is widely recognised for his expertise in criminal defence. He regularly appears before the High Court of Australia, the Federal Court, Courts of Criminal Appeal, and Supreme Courts throughout the country. His practice encompasses major and complex criminal trials and appeals, including homicide matters, large-scale fraud, and serious importation offences. In addition to criminal litigation, Omar serves multinational corporations across finance, healthcare and technology sectors. He advises on regulatory compliance, external investigations, and cross-border disputes. He represents individuals and companies subject to economic crime investigations both in Australia and internationally, with experience involving agencies such as the U.S. Department of Justice, FBI, IRS, SEC, DEA, Department of Defense, FTC, U.S. Secret Service, Department of Homeland Security and U.S. State Department. He is also retained to provide advice in complex commercial litigation. Omar has a keen focus on issues relating to mental health defences, police powers, and asset confiscation under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (Cth). He has conducted more than 1,000 hearings before the State Parole Authority and frequently appears before the Australian and New South Wales Crime Commissions, as well as the Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity.
