David Svoboda

David Svoboda is a Senior Consultant with extensive experience in criminal defence law, having practised exclusively in this field for over 15 years across both private and government sectors in Queensland and Western Australia. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland, as well as a Masters of Applied Linguistics from the University of Southern Queensland. David has a strong background representing clients in serious criminal matters across various courts and jurisdictions. His experience includes handling complex and high-profile cases, where he is known for a thorough approach to each matter. He carefully considers all legal issues and explores a range of options, including negotiations, discontinuance, and alternative dispute resolution processes, with the goal of achieving the best possible outcomes for his clients—often seeking to resolve matters outside of court when appropriate. Recognising the significant stress that criminal proceedings can impose, David places great emphasis on clear communication and client support throughout the legal process. He is attentive to keeping clients informed and ensuring they feel supported during challenging times. David’s extensive travel and background in applied linguistics have equipped him with a nuanced understanding of cross-cultural communication. He regularly works with clients from diverse backgrounds and is experienced in engaging interpreters to ensure effective communication. He has contributed to the broader legal community as a former member of the Criminal Law Committee of the Queensland Law Society. David’s dedication to law reform and client advocacy has been recognised with the Outstanding Achievement Award for Contribution to National Legal Aid Law Reform Regarding People Smugglers and a Legal Aid Queensland Recognition Award in 2012.
