About Shirley
Shirley Tascone is a highly experienced director and lawyer, having established a distinguished career in both commercial law and Wills and estates. After graduating with a double degree in Law and Commerce from Murdoch University, Shirley was admitted to practice in February 2006. Originally from South Africa, she began her legal journey at Zilkens Lawyers, immersing herself in the Australian legal system. Her early work included drafting complex litigation documents and making appearances in the Federal, Supreme, and District Courts, with the rare opportunity to appear before the High Court of Australia.
In 2008, Shirley transitioned to focus on Wills and estates, working for mid-sized firms before founding her practice, SBT Legal, in 2014. Here, she honed her skills in preparing comprehensive legal documents such as Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, and Testamentary Trust Wills. Her experience in litigation has given her unique insights into the emotional impact of legal proceedings on clients, particularly in sensitive cases involving the death of a loved one or contested Wills.
Recognised by the Doyles Guide for her expertise in Wills and estates in Western Australia from 2019 to 2024, Shirley is passionate about educating the public on the importance of having a well-prepared Will. She is a sought-after speaker, frequently presenting on the drawbacks of homemade Will Kits and poorly drafted Wills.
Her extensive career also includes roles as a Senior Commercial Lawyer at Civic Legal and a Commercial Lawyer at Taylor Smart Lawyers and Notaries, where she provided legal advice on estate planning and managed a broad array of commercial agreements. Shirley's early work at Zilkens Lawyers saw her resolve commercial disputes and manage high-profile litigation across various courts.
Shirley's foundational years in Johannesburg, with firms such as Spoor and Fisher and D M Kisch Inc, further broadened her expertise, particularly in patent and intellectual property matters.
