Julia Higgins, a Partner at our firm, is highly regarded in the legal community for her exceptional work in Family Law. Recognised in the top tier of the 2026 Doyles Legal Guide, she is identified as a Preeminent Family & Divorce and Parenting & Children's Matters Lawyer for Tasmania. With extensive experience in advising clients on financial, parenting, child support, maintenance, and divorce issues, Julia is committed to achieving the best outcomes for her clients. Her dedication to law is matched by her enthusiasm for stiletto heels. Understanding the emotional and financial challenges of separation and litigation, Julia emphasises mediation and dispute resolution. However, her substantial court experience enables her to effectively represent clients in complex litigation in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. Her expertise is further demonstrated by her frequent appointments as an Independent Children’s Lawyer in complicated parenting disputes. Julia leads our Family Law team and has held significant leadership roles, including being the President of the Law Society of Tasmania in 2023/2024. She is a former Chair of the Family Law Practitioners Association (Tas) and served as a Commissioner for Tasmania Legal Aid, contributing to legal assistance for those in need. Additionally, she plays a vital role in legal education as a member of the Board of Legal Education and engages with the community through her directorship at St. Vincent De Paul Tasmania. Her past involvement includes being a committee member and Vice Chair of the Launceston Women's Shelter and a President of the Northern Young Lawyers Committee, showcasing her commitment to both professional and community service.
