Derek Lo brings over 23 years of legal experience, with expertise spanning commercial law, commercial litigation, criminal law, family law, and wills and estates. He has represented clients in both State and Federal Superior Courts, handling matters that include contractual and partnership disputes, trade practices, corporations law, and torts. Derek’s client base comprises corporations and individuals across Australia and the Asia Pacific region. He has provided legal advice to a diverse range of industries such as manufacturing, wholesale, retail, financial services, international trade, professional services, education, and construction. His particular interest in the retail sector has involved him extensively in franchise arrangements for international brands, representing both franchisers and franchisees. In recent years, Derek has also offered strategic guidance to Australian and international businesses on matters involving international trade and the establishment of new ventures overseas. Beyond his legal practice, Derek leads the firm’s corporate social responsibility program, viewing CSR as integral to the integrity of the legal profession and as a vital means by which Canaan Lawyers can serve the public interest.
