Jon Laws is the Legal Practice Director and Principal Solicitor at Chancery Legal, a boutique firm focused on litigation and dispute resolution. With extensive experience across commercial and general litigation, Jon places particular emphasis on building and construction disputes as well as estate matters, including family provision claims. His expertise also encompasses consumer law issues, professional negligence, breaches of trust, and restraint of trade. Jon has managed numerous complex litigation files throughout his career, including roles as Litigation and Dispute Resolution Partner at Delaneys Lawyers and senior litigation associate at Evans Lawyers. He has appeared in various courts at both State and Federal levels and represented clients before tribunals such as QCAT and regulatory bodies like the Queensland Building and Construction Commission. Jon is well-versed in adjudication processes relating to payment claims and subcontractors’ charges under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017. Beyond commercial litigation, Jon maintains a strong interest in music and entertainment law. He supports musicians and artists by addressing contractual disputes and advising on intellectual property, copyright, and trade marking matters.
