Elizabeth Godfrey

Elizabeth Godfrey is the Principal and esteemed Head of Trade Marks at DCC, steering one of the most distinguished trade mark teams in the Asia Pacific region. With over 25 years in the intellectual property domain, Elizabeth excels in all facets of trade mark protection, including selection, searching, application, and prosecution of both local and international trade mark applications. Her expertise extends to opposition and non-use practices, effectively managing cases through to hearings in the Trade Marks Office and offering assistance on appeal matters to the Federal Court of Australia. Elizabeth began her career at Davies Collison Cave Law Pty Ltd in 2000, initially engaging in all areas of IP litigation for a decade before transitioning to the Trade Marks Group. Her comprehensive skill set allows her to manage a robust contentious and enforcement practice with a special focus on domain names and online trade mark infringements. She is adept at handling issues arising from Google AdWords, social media, and e-commerce websites and assists clients in implementing Custom Seizure programs to curb the entry of counterfeit goods into Australia. Highly responsive and client-focused, Elizabeth provides strategic and commercially oriented advice, deeply valuing her client relationships. Her work has earned her multiple accolades, including being recognised as a leading IP Professional and receiving the MIP Australian Practitioner of the Year award for Trade Marks and Patent Attorneys in 2023. Passionate about inclusivity and innovation, she leads DCC's Ways of Working initiative as part of their Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee. Elizabeth's academic credentials are impressive, holding a LLB (Hons), BA, BSc (Hons in Psychology), and a Graduate Diploma in IP Law from Monash University, along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Intellectual Property from the University of Melbourne. Additionally, she is a registered Trade Marks Attorney. Her contributions to the field include extensive publications and presentations on trade mark developments and best practices, sharing her insights with clients and peers.
