Dinesh Weerakkody is the Principal Lawyer at DLegal Barristers & Solicitors, admitted to the Supreme Court of Victoria with 26 years in the legal field. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from Deakin University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice. He brings extensive legal experience across a range of practice areas, with particular expertise in immigration, criminal, family, commercial, and litigation law. He was instrumental in establishing the Migration Law Practice at Oates Rennick Lawyers early in his career. As founder of DLegal and Victory Law, Dinesh leads legal practices dedicated to delivering high-quality, multidisciplinary legal services. He is known for providing commercially aware, strategic, and client-focused advice, with an emphasis on practical solutions and strong professional service. Dinesh maintains an active leadership role within the legal profession. He currently serves as President of LawHelp Australia and is a Senior member of the Law Institute of Victoria’s Migration Law Committee. He has also previously served as Treasurer of the Eastern Suburbs Law Association of the Law Institute of Victoria. Alongside his professional practice, Dinesh has contributed extensively to legal education. He has taught law at Deakin University, served as an adjunct lecturer at The College of Law, and was formerly a Unit Convenor at Swinburne University Law School, where he developed the evidence law curriculum. His academic and professional experience enable him to bring both technical knowledge and practical insight to his work. He also produces the LawHelp television programme on Channel 31, reflecting his broader commitment to legal education and community service. Fluent in Sinhalese, Dinesh can assist a diverse client base with clarity, sensitivity, and cultural understanding.
