Paul Cantwell

Paul is a highly experienced commercial litigator, with over 25 years' experience both in private practice as a principal of international law firms and in-house. He specialises in contract, corporate and commercial transactions, insurance and financial services litigation, regulatory, advisory and compliance, estates disputes and litigation, family provision claims, competition and consumer law, product liability litigation, negligence claims, major building and construction disputes for insurance brokers and their insureds, including industrial special risks and contract works claims, property and real estate litigation, shareholder and takeover litigation, public and general liability claims, personal injury claims, sensitive and institutional abuse claims, monetary recoveries and enforcement. Paul has also acted in major projects on secondment to Westpac including the sale of Westpac Life to TAL (Peerpoint), to QSuper for the QSuper/Sun Super merger and associated life claims (LOD) and high value multi-party construction insurance litigation for insureds against their insurers, leading to entirely successful outcomes at trial in the superior Courts, both in his own practice and for Vario. He is experienced in high value multi-party claims, litigation and dispute resolution including mediation and arbitration. He also acts for individuals in employment matters including in the Federal Court and in particular, employment and regulatory issues in the financial services sector. Paul regularly appears before Tribunals, including AFCA, and in the Superior and Appellate Courts acting for both Plaintiffs and Defendants.
