Tony Hager

Tony Hager is a seasoned barrister with over 15 years of experience in criminal law, practising in both Western Australia and Victoria. He has held the position of In-House Counsel for the Aboriginal Legal Service of WA and the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service, showcasing his commitment to providing legal representation for under-represented communities. Tony's expertise spans a wide array of criminal matters, including murder, sexual offences, white collar crime, assault, property offences, drug offences, and dishonesty offences. His practice also encompasses traffic-related legal issues, such as drink driving and reckless driving, as well as coronial inquests, regulatory prosecutions, and Commonwealth offences. As lead Counsel, Tony has appeared in various courts, including courts of summary jurisdiction, Children’s Court, District Court, County Court, and Supreme Court. His competencies include conducting jury trials, pleas in mitigation, sentencing, contested bail applications, and interlocutory hearings. He is well-versed in representing respondents in proceedings under the High Risk Serious Offenders Act in the Supreme Court. Tony's commitment to justice is further reflected in his membership on all Legal Aid Criminal Law Panels and his dedication to undertaking pro bono work. Tony obtained both his Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Western Australia in 2007, followed by a Master of Laws in Criminal Justice in 2012. His passion for advocacy and comprehensive understanding of the law drive him to achieve the best possible outcomes for his clients. Currently, he is a barrister at Geoffrey Miller Chambers in Perth, where he continues to apply his extensive knowledge and skills on behalf of his clients.
