

Julie Nessworthy serves as the Managing Director at Hamish Cumming Family Lawyers, having joined the firm in 2014. With over 30 years of legal experience and two decades dedicated exclusively to family law, Julie's extensive knowledge in the field is well-recognised. An accredited mediator, she has also spent over 15 years as an Independent Children’s Lawyer, showcasing her commitment to the welfare of children in legal proceedings. Before joining Hamish Cumming Family Lawyers, Julie's career included a significant tenure at Legal Aid NSW as a senior solicitor. There, she was instrumental in supervising junior lawyers and providing nuanced legal guidance in complex situations. Her earlier years in private practice in Newcastle laid the foundation for her robust understanding of the legal landscape. Julie's accreditation as a family law specialist since 2005 highlights her dedication to continual professional development within her field. Her expertise encompasses all facets of family law, including property and parenting matters, relocation, child support, spouse maintenance, and de facto property settlements. Known for her practical and pragmatic advice, Julie’s strong professional networks further enhance her ability to provide specialised counsel. Educated at the University of Cape Town, where she earned her Bachelor of Laws, Julie was admitted to practice as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Africa in 1988 and to the Supreme Court of Australia in 1995. Her active memberships include the family law sections of the Law Council of Australia and the Law Society of New South Wales, alongside the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators. A member of the Independent Children’s Lawyers panel, Julie is passionately involved in the training and education of fellow practitioners.
