Michael Nowland

Michael Nowland serves as the Solicitor Director and head of the Private Client practice at HCN Law, bringing two decades of combined experience in law and finance. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of New South Wales and a Bachelor of Applied Finance from Macquarie University. Before turning to law, Michael spent over ten years in the banking and financial services sector with leading institutions such as the Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, and NAB. This experience enriched his ability to structure and plan property and financial transactions, and equipped him with skills to advise high-net-worth individuals on investments and superannuation. Transitioning to law, Michael dedicated the past decade to assisting private clients with complex estate planning, estate administration, litigation, trusts, and property conveyancing. Prior to joining HCN Law, he practiced at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers in Sydney and Sparke Helmore Lawyers in Newcastle. He became a principal solicitor at HCN Law in 2022, where he leverages his comprehensive understanding of financial services, estate planning, and property law to help regional clients secure their estates and build lasting wealth. His career path includes a role as a Non-Executive Director for Finding Yellow and previous positions as Legal Counsel at Lawyers On Demand and Lawyer at Hills Solicitors. Michael also served as the Regulatory Affairs Manager at Newcastle Permanent Building Society and contributed as a Lawyer in Financial Services at Hamilton Blackstone Lawyers, enhancing his insight into corporate and commercial law. Michael's academic accomplishments include a distinction average at UNSW and a Dean's list award in 2017, as well as a Diploma of Financial Services from Kaplan Professional.
