James Yeatman

James Yeatman, the Legal Director of our Employment and Commercial team, brings over 30 years of experience in Employment Law. With a solid foundation from a top-tier law firm, he has over 15 years in private practice and 12 years of in-house experience as a General Counsel. James is well-versed in all areas of employment, industrial, and workplace relations law, including discrimination, disability, health and safety, workers' compensation, transfer of business, directors' duties, and immigration. Known for his hands-on approach, James remains calm under pressure and communicates effectively with stakeholders, making legal services accessible and understandable. As a seasoned litigator, he has represented clients in a myriad of courts and tribunals, including Fair Work Australia, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, VCAT, and several Magistrates, Supreme, Federal, and High Courts across Australia. In addition to his litigation prowess, James excels in managing data, intellectual property, and privacy compliance, navigating the complexities of data security in modern technology use. His exceptional drafting skills and attention to detail in contracts showcase his sound commercial judgment and willingness to tackle challenging legal issues. James's diverse background includes service as an Officer in the Australian Naval Reserve in the Intelligence and Legal branches, where he performed an operational intelligence role during the Peace Keeping mission in Timor and served aboard the USS Blue Ridge as an intelligence officer. James also conducts engaging legal training sessions and presents at conferences and seminars, sharing his extensive knowledge and insights with wider audiences.
