Alan Jaques is a distinguished Senior Attorney with a robust background in intellectual property law, backed by extensive experience across multiple industries. His career began with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University in the UK, leading him to work at Rolls-Royce Aerospace as a Design Engineer on large civil jet engines. After exploring Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia, Alan settled in Australia in 2008, contributing to the aerospace, composites production, and resources sectors. In 2015, he transitioned to the legal sphere, joining a small Perth firm as a Technical Assistant. There, he earned his Masters of Intellectual Property and became a registered attorney, focusing on protecting clients' intellectual property. Alan spent six years providing strategic advice in areas such as additive manufacturing, resources, automotive, subsea, and water treatment before joining Golja Haines and Friend as a Senior Attorney in 2021. Alan is adept at patent drafting, prosecution, and addressing contentious matters. His expertise includes providing Freedom to Operate and Validity opinions, helping clients navigate risks effectively. His approach is client-focused, ensuring tailored strategies that suit individual needs, recognising that a one-size-fits-all strategy is ineffective. Prior to his legal career, Alan held roles such as Business Owner of a 3D printing service, Engineering Coordinator at Lycopodium, and Lead Production Engineer at Quickstep Holdings. These positions honed his skills in project management, engineering change management, and production oversight. Beyond the office, Alan enjoys spending time with his children, cycling, paddle boarding, and further exploring Australia.
