John Allanson

John Allanson is a Solicitor and Barrister with over 50 years of continuous legal practice, having been admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1975 and the High Court of Australia in 1971. Throughout his extensive career, John has maintained a commitment to staying current with the evolving legal landscape, ensuring his practice utilises the latest technology to provide efficient service. Raised and educated in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, John initially commuted from Clareville and Avalon to Sydney’s western suburbs before establishing his practice in Mona Vale in 1993. Known for his methodical and analytical approach, John applies a commercially astute and communicative style to complex legal matters, often employing a conciliatory mediation approach to help resolve disputes effectively. His ability to distil complex legal issues into clear, relatable explanations reflects his vast experience and practical wisdom. John’s involvement extends beyond law; he has had a prominent role in yachting, serving as President of Yachting NSW and as a Board Member of Yachting Australia (now Sailing Australia). He was also Commodore of the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club at Newport from 1990 to 1992. In addition to his legal qualifications, John is a licensed builder and has completed several property developments. He is passionate about wooden boat restoration, a hobby that combines his craftsmanship skills with his love of traditional construction. John holds a Diploma in Law from the Sydney University and is a member of the Law Society of New South Wales. He began his legal career as an Articled Clerk with Ian Lacey Solicitors in Fairfield and has built a reputation for integrity, insight, and a practical approach to legal practice.
