Katie Vardanega

Katie Vardanega is a Partner who brings a wealth of experience and a strong academic background to her role. Graduating with a double degree in Law and Science from the University of Wollongong in 2011, she completed her Practical Legal Training with the firm in 2012, leading to her admission as a solicitor later that year. Since joining the firm, Katie has honed her skills with significant practical experience in the Federal Circuit Court and the Children's Court. Her regular appearances as a solicitor-advocate at interim hearings and complex matters showcase her growing reputation as an adept advocate and negotiator in litigious contexts. Katie is renowned for her natural confidence in Court, which complements her ability to effectively brief counsel for Final Hearings. Her role often involves participation in Legal Aid Settlement Conferences, where she provides crucial advice and support to clients in family dispute resolutions. Known for her empathy and commitment to early settlements, Katie excels in offering practical solutions and maintaining clear communication with clients, ensuring they understand complex legal concepts through plain English. Her versatility in Court is evident through her experience in various roles, including acting as a qualified Independent Children’s Lawyer. This position sees her representing children or parents in the Family Law Courts and the Children’s Courts. Additionally, she contributes as a member of the external legal panel for the Department of Communities and Justice and has represented related third parties such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, and foster carers. Rooted in the Dapto community where she grew up, Katie’s local connections enhance her practice. Before her legal career, she dedicated a decade to teaching at a local dance school. Outside of her professional life, Katie enjoys reading, travelling, and cherishing time with her husband, their two young children, and her extended family.
