Fiona Buchanan

Fiona is a solicitor with a diverse legal background encompassing family law, criminal law, estate planning, wills, and probate. She holds degrees in Arts (Languages) and Law from the Australian National University and the LPAB Law Extension Committee of The University of Sydney. Fiona is recognised for her practical, down-to-earth approach and strong commitment to achieving effective resolutions. She is skilled at advocacy, communication, and collaboration, with the ability to adapt quickly to meet clients’ needs. Her legal work is driven by a passion for addressing injustices, promoting informed discussion, and supporting social inclusion. Her interest in criminal law began through her work with the Aboriginal Legal Service, where she gained valuable experience. Fiona also has substantial expertise in drafting wills and managing estate matters and has expanded her practice to include family and property law. Before entering the legal profession, Fiona spent over 15 years in business administration, holding roles such as Executive Officer. She worked across a range of sectors including international business, compliance, hospitality, training and development, non-profit organisations, and government. This background equips her with a well-rounded perspective and strong organisational skills. Fiona’s achievements include project design and delivery with the Maitland Business Chamber, serving as Mine Safety Officer with NSW Mine Safety, and working as the National Education Manager for the Export Council of Australia. Based in the Hunter Valley, Fiona values the local community and enjoys participating in business groups, local events, and activities involving schools and sporting clubs.
