Peter Kelso

Peter Kelso is the Founder and Principal of Kelso Lawyers, a leading practice dedicated to securing compensation for victims of historic child sexual abuse. Having spent 13 years in institutional care himself, Peter possesses a deeply personal understanding of the trauma and challenges many of his clients have faced. This unique experience enriches his empathetic and insightful approach to legal representation. Starting his legal career at Stuart J Beal, where he practised personal injury and criminal law, Peter gained valuable courtroom experience that laid the foundation for his future endeavours. In February 1986, he embarked on a solo venture that would grow into Kelso Lawyers, now an Incorporated Legal Practice under AustraLaw Pty Ltd. His firm represents a diverse national client base, advocating for survivors seeking justice against institutions including the Catholic Church, State governments, and various charities. Before his admission as a solicitor, Peter worked as a Securities Officer at the State Bank of NSW, where he developed skills in debt recovery and provided legal advice under supervision. His legal education includes a Diploma of Laws from the Barristers Admission Board, completed in conjunction with his involvement in the Law Society of NSW. Passionate about law reform and advocacy, Peter is active on social media, using his platform to agitate for change and share his own story to inspire and support others. His dedication has led to numerous achievements in obtaining meaningful outcomes for his clients, whether through financial settlements or securing apologies from responsible institutions.
