Gemunu Kumarasinhe, a seasoned barrister, commenced his distinguished legal career as a solicitor in 1983 after completing his BA/LLB at Macquarie University. His work with the Aboriginal Legal Service allowed him to gain valuable experience, appearing in Local and District Courts across the north coast. He developed a profound understanding of the challenges faced by Indigenous communities within the criminal justice system, fostering a deep commitment to advocacy and justice. Appointed as an Accredited Specialist in Criminal Law by the NSW Law Society in 1999, Gemunu brings unparalleled expertise and dedication to his practice. Since being admitted to the Bar in 2000, he has focused his practice on criminal law, representing clients in the District and Local Courts from Sydney to Tweed Heads. Gemunu offers his services directly to the public for most Local Court and District Court sentence appeals, demonstrating his commitment to accessible legal representation. His areas of practice include criminal trials, appeals, and sentences in the District Court, as well as sentences, defended hearings, apprehended personal and domestic violence matters, and committal proceedings in the Local Court.
