Grant Cagney

Grant Cagney serves as the Principal Solicitor at McGowran & Cagney Lawyers, offering legal services in criminal and family law within Rockhampton and Central Queensland. Since joining the firm in 2009, Grant has developed close ties with the local community and now leads the practice. Admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in 2011, Grant holds a Bachelor of Laws from QUT and a Diploma of Legal Practice from the College of Law. He regularly appears as a solicitor advocate across various courts, including the Magistrate, District and Supreme Courts, as well as the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. In 2024, Grant received accreditation as a specialist in criminal law, making him the only solicitor with this recognition practising in Central Queensland. He provides representation across a broad spectrum of criminal matters, including traffic offences, drug-related cases, domestic violence, assaults, and more complex charges such as fraud and homicide. In family law, Grant assists clients with parenting arrangements, divorce proceedings, and property settlements. Grant’s dedication to the profession was acknowledged in 2015 when he received the Justice Peter Dutney Memorial Award for promoting a healthy work–life balance within the legal community. He is a former president and active member of the Central Queensland Law Association.
