Naomi Atherton

Naomi Atherton is a Senior Associate at McKays, contributing her expertise to the Commercial and Estate Planning, Administration and Litigation Team. With a strong connection to the Mackay region, Naomi brings a practical and client-focused approach to her work, assisting a diverse range of individual and corporate clients. Raised on a cattle and cane property in Mackay, Naomi has a deep understanding of agricultural and rural matters, which complements her broad legal expertise. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from James Cook University and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University. Admitted as a Solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2015, Naomi has gained valuable experience practising law in Townsville and the Gold Coast before returning to Mackay in 2017 to join McKays. Naomi’s areas of practice include commercial and business law, property and development law, intellectual property, as well as estate planning, wills, and deceased estates. She advises on starting, buying, operating, and selling businesses, share and commercial property transactions, leasing arrangements, and intellectual property matters including trademarks. Naomi also provides guidance on estate planning involving wills and powers of attorney, as well as estate administration and related litigation. Beyond her legal work, Naomi is committed to the Mackay community. She sits on the board of the Resources Centre of Excellence, which offers advanced facilities for resource development training and technology. Naomi also serves as President of Young Professionals Mackay, actively engages with the Mackay Chamber of Commerce, and supports various local charities and organisations.
