Michael Ryan

Michael Ryan is the principal of Mortlock Ryan & Co Barristers and Solicitors, a distinguished legal practice located in Northam, Western Australia. With a primary focus on criminal law, Michael also brings his expertise to the areas of Wills and Probate and family mediation. As the firm’s registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, he is deeply committed to providing comprehensive legal services to clients throughout regional Western Australia. Before embarking on his legal career, Michael served as a police officer with the Western Australian Police for nearly two decades. His extensive experience in police investigations, community policing, and police prosecutions, particularly in country WA, armed him with a profound understanding of the legal needs of these communities. Recognising a gap in legal services for regional areas, he was inspired to pursue a career in law. Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New England in 2013 and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia that same year. Leveraging his experience as a prosecuting sergeant, he transitioned to a role with the Western Australian Legislative Council, advising on various Standing Committees, such as the Committees on Estimates and Financial Operations and Environment and Public Affairs. In June 2016, Michael established Mortlock Ryan & Co Pty Ltd, driven by a passion to provide high-quality legal services to the communities in regional Western Australia. His dedication to fostering lifelong relationships and working in partnership with local communities is at the heart of the firm's operations.
