About Michael
Michael Helman is a highly experienced Principal Lawyer with over 30 years of practise across a diverse range of legal areas. His primary expertise lies in litigation, encompassing commercial litigation, family law, wills and estates, employment law, and criminal law. Michael is known for his professional and personable approach, catering to a diverse clientele, and providing clear, prompt advice. He excels in negotiating and resolving disputes at the earliest possible stage, ensuring clients are well-informed about the merits of their cases.
As a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, Michael is committed to the legal community. His dedication extends to volunteering with the St. Kilda Legal Service over many years. Beyond the courtroom, he serves on the Council of the Australian Institute of International Affairs and has been a board member for numerous community organisations, reflecting his active engagement in civic affairs.
Michael's journey in law began with a Bachelor's Degree in Laws from the University of Adelaide, completed in 1979. Since then, he has built a remarkable career as the Principal Lawyer at Michael T Helman Lawyers, a position he has held with distinction since 2001.
Outside of his legal work, Michael enjoys participating in sports, exploring languages, reading, and travelling, enriching his life and professional perspective.
