She began her career at Ebsworth & Ebsworth, honing her skills as a solicitor, which paved the way for her distinguished career. Joanne is also deeply committed to pro bono work and community involvement. She is a life member and former president of Lawright and actively contributes to the University of Queensland Pro Bono Centre Advisory Board. Her educational background includes a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from The University of Queensland and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from QUT.
