About Glenn
Glenn Robert Thompson OAM is a Director at Newnhams Solicitors and has practised in Family Law for over 39 years. Admitted to the Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia in 1985, Glenn has built a distinguished career advising on complex property and child-related disputes. He has extensive experience acting for clients with international connections, providing expert guidance in Australian Family Law matters, and has given expert evidence in court proceedings. Glenn holds accreditation as a Family Law Specialist and is a qualified Arbitrator and Mediator with AIFLAM and NMAS. He is a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, reflecting his longstanding contributions to the field. Glenn has taken on significant leadership roles, including Chair of the Specialist Accreditation Board in Family Law for NSW and co-chair of the Family Law Committee of the Law Society of New South Wales. He also serves as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Master of Laws (Applied Law) program at the College of Law and contributes to the College’s Family Law Advisory Committee. His commitment to law reform and community engagement is evident from his membership of the Australian Law Reform Commission Advisory Committee during their inquiry into Family Law in 2019, as well as leadership roles in several professional networks and committees focused on family law and access to justice. In recognition of his dedication, Glenn was awarded the NSW Law Society President’s Medal in 2010 and was a finalist for Law Society Member of the Year in 2022. He received the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2017 for his services to Family Law and the community and was honoured with an Honorary Master of Laws (Applied Law) and Fellowship from the College of Law in 2023. Most recently, in 2025, Glenn was appointed by the Attorney-General to the Family Law Council, a statutory advisory body reporting directly to the Federal Government on family law issues and reform. His extensive experience and leadership continue to influence the development of family law practice and policy in Australia.
