

Michael Baltins serves as Special Counsel with a distinguished career in litigation and litigation funding, spanning over a decade. He has demonstrated his expertise through high-profile class actions and recovery actions, notably involving ASX listed companies, managed investment schemes, and financial service providers. Michael's extensive practice covers insolvency, trusts and equity, financial services, shareholder disputes, fraud, and negligence, as well as real property disputes and directors’ duties. He has successfully acted for and funded various entities including insolvency practitioners, directors, shareholders, insurers, lenders, and corporate bodies, especially within complex insolvency cases linked to ASX listed companies, property development, mining operations, and retail sectors. Michael's professional journey at O'Loughlin Westhoff as Special Counsel began in October 2023. Prior to this role, he contributed significantly as a Senior Associate and Investment Manager at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, facilitating litigation strategies and financial recoveries. His tenure at Maddocks as a Senior Associate and his comprehensive experience at William James further honed his capabilities in insolvency and commercial litigation. Earlier, Michael developed his skills at Squire Patton Boggs and Piper Alderman, where he gained valuable experience as an Associate and Lawyer. Michael is a committed member of the Australian Restructuring, Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA), having completed the ARITA Advanced Certificate in Insolvency. His academic foundation is solid, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce and Law from UNSW, where he graduated with Honours. His early education was completed at The Scots College, which provided a strong foundation for his legal pursuits. Michael's career is marked by a consistent focus on delivering exceptional legal solutions across a multitude of complex financial and commercial landscapes.
