

Dr Anthony Marinac serves as Special Counsel, bringing extensive expertise in administrative law, environmental law, and contract law. With over two decades of experience in both public and private practice, his career commenced in Canberra in the late 1990s where he played a pivotal role in the Industry department. Here, Anthony addressed environmental legislation, notably contributing to the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. His tenure at Parliament House saw him progressing from Principal Research Officer to Director of Research, where he excelled as a parliamentary draftsman, steering legislative amendments through the Senate. In 2007, Anthony joined the Royal Australian Air Force, dedicating six years to service at Air Force Headquarters and operational bases. Known for delivering clear, practical legal advice, his service included a secondment to the Navy, participating in Operation Resolute aboard HMAS Pirie and HMAS Larrakia. Maintaining his connection to the defence forces, Anthony continues as a member of the RAAF Reserve. From 2013, his academic contributions at CQUniversity Australia were marked by his ability to demystify complex legal concepts, further showcased in his legal education YouTube channel. His part-time engagement as Counsel Assisting at Queensland’s Office of the State Coroner involved high-profile inquests, while his call to the bar enabled him to argue significant cases across various levels of the court system. Presently, as Legal Practice Director at Pacific Maritime Lawyers, Anthony delivers results-oriented legal services to the maritime industry. His role spans project management, compliance audits, commercial dispute resolution, and maritime incident investigation, providing crucial support to the sector. Alongside, he fulfils the duties of a Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Australian Navy as a Navy Reservist, and holds a visiting lecturer position in Maritime Law and Policy at the Australian Maritime College. With prior experience as Director of Maritime Services for the Department of Transport and Main Roads and solicitor roles in maritime and commercial litigation, Anthony's vocational journey began as a Deck Officer for BHP Transport. His educational accolades include a Graduate Certificate in Military Law from The Australian National University, a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from Deakin University, and a Diploma of Applied Science from the Australian Maritime College, underscoring a robust foundation in legal and maritime disciplines.
