Mahalingam Sutharshan (Shan)

Mahalingam Sutharshan, widely known as Shan, is a distinguished Senior Registered Migration Agent and Director, focusing on immigration law. With a dedication to guiding clients through the migration process, Shan offers comprehensive legal advice and representation, ensuring that they are fully informed of their options and rights. Shan embarked on his legal journey in Sri Lanka, earning his LL.B degree from the University of Colombo in 2000. He furthered his education in Australia, receiving a Masters of Laws (LL.M) from Monash University in 2003. Demonstrating his commitment to broadening his expertise, Shan completed another LL.M with a focus on International Humanitarian and Environmental Law at the Australian National University in 2008, under the auspices of the AusAid Leadership Scholarship. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Migration Law and Practice, obtained in 2009. Before his tenure in Australia, Shan contributed significantly in Sri Lanka as a researcher at the National Human Rights Commission and as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Jaffna. His role as a Project Officer at the Pathfinder Foundation further enriched his experience. Since joining Parish Patience Bitel Immigration Lawyers in 2010, Shan has become proficient in managing protection visa applications, as well as handling cases before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal and Ministerial appeals. His interests are deeply rooted in refugee law, asylum seekers, and human rights, reflecting his passion for serving vulnerable populations.
