Sutherlan Scudds

Sutherlan Scudds is a dedicated barrister and solicitor and a part-owner at Porter Scudds. He embarked on his legal career under the mentorship of Jeremy Scudds, beginning his journey at the firm in 2006. Growing up immersed in the legal world, Sutherlan chose to pursue a career in law, graduating from Murdoch Law School in 2014 with the distinction of Best Academic Performance, all while maintaining his role at the firm. Throughout his tenure from 2006 to 2014, Sutherlan gained extensive experience in trial preparation and served as a junior in trials across all courts in Western Australia. His legal foundation was further enriched by his tenure as a law clerk at O’Brien Hudson Criminal Lawyers in Sydney. Upon his admission as a barrister and solicitor, Sutherlan advanced quickly, managing trials, sentencing, and various legal matters in the Supreme Court, District Court, and Magistrates Courts. He has integrated modern technology with innovative trial preparation and analytical techniques, greatly benefiting his clients in defending criminal charges. Sutherlan has honed exceptional negotiation skills and expertise in a wide range of legal areas, focusing on complex defences, sentencing, traffic matters, and license issues. His strategic approach has often resulted in favourable outcomes, including the successful withdrawal of charges. Beyond his legal acumen, Sutherlan was an elite sportsman, excelling as an Australian champion and World Cup Quarter Finalist in fencing. His athletic accomplishments, developed under the WA Institute of Sport, have endowed him with resilience and the ability to perform under pressure, attributes he leverages in his legal practice.
