Jan Domantay

Jan Domantay serves as the Managing Director and Principal Solicitor of Z&H Lawyers and is the founding principal of Domantay Legal. With over 15 years of legal experience, Jan is adept at handling complex commercial law issues, corporate governance, property transactions, family financial arrangements, estate planning, and dispute resolution. His expertise extends deeply into litigation, where he crafts outcome-focused legal strategies for both individual and business clients. A graduate of Monash University, Jan completed a double degree in Law and Science, majoring in Psychology, in 2007. He was admitted to practice in Victoria in 2008. Jan's legal journey began at WorkSafe Victoria, where he prosecuted breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004. He later advanced to the Office of Public Prosecutions (Victoria) as a senior prosecutor, tackling serious criminal matters and frequently appearing before various courts including VCAT and the Supreme Court of Victoria. In 2016, Jan established his first law firm with an emphasis on supporting small to medium-sized businesses and local communities. Through carefully structured growth and strategic acquisitions, his legal network now spans Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane, and Adelaide. Jan’s unique background in psychology enhances his skills in dispute resolution, negotiation, and client communication, allowing him to devise pragmatic strategies that adeptly balance risk management with client objectives. At Z&H Lawyers, Jan is instrumental in developing structured dispute resolution systems, setting client service standards, and mentoring emerging legal talent, which fortifies the firm’s commitment to excellence. He has successfully resolved numerous high-stakes cases, from recovering losses in investment fraud cases to negotiating favourable outcomes in contentious family law disputes. Outside his legal practice, Jan is a committed father of three and an enthusiastic supporter of the NBA, UFC, and AFL, particularly the Hawthorn Hawks.
