API Legal is led by the Principal Solicitor, who brings a compelling personal journey and extensive legal expertise to the firm. Born in Tonga and raised in Western Sydney, the Principal grew up in a large family engaged with the local Catholic and Tongan Catholic communities. This upbringing fostered a deep commitment to helping people, particularly those from ethnic and minority backgrounds, through the power of law. With a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, St Leonards, the Principal's academic credentials are complemented by rich professional experiences. These include roles at the Administrative Decisions Tribunal, Migration Review Tribunal, and NSW Ombudsman’s Office, before advancing into criminal law with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). In the ODPP, the Principal began as a Legal Clerk and advanced to a Prosecutions Solicitor, acquiring vital advocacy skills by prosecuting serious criminal cases in the District Court and instructing Crown Prosecutors in major trials. Transitioning into criminal defence, the Principal became reconnected with the community, particularly serving Pacific and ethnic clients and gaining admission onto the High Court Roll. In 2009, API Legal was established, with its Principal continuing to represent clients across all areas of criminal and traffic law in NSW. The firm offers comprehensive legal services, from legal advice to representation at all court levels, including the Children's Court, Local Court, District Court, Supreme Court, and even the High Court. The firm handles a wide array of matters, such as assault, indecent and sexual assault, drug offences, property crimes, driving offences, and other commonwealth offences.
