About us

KPA Lawyers has acted for Victorian families, business owners and property investors since 1988. Some of those clients are still with the firm more than three decades later, which is the measure that matters most here. Offices in Melbourne CBD, Sandringham and Mornington cover the city through to Portsea. Growth over that time, including the integration of the teams from Land Transfer Services and LMS Lawyers, has broadened what the firm handles under one roof. A business sale that touches a family law matter, or a property purchase that prompts a new estate plan, can be run by one firm that already knows the client's circumstances. Our areas of practice include: - Property law and conveyancing: sales and purchases, off the plan, plans of subdivision, owners corporation matters, property disputes - Business and leasing: buying and selling businesses, retail and commercial leases, lease disputes, franchising, debt recovery, mergers and acquisitions - Commercial: company structuring, commercial agreements, discretionary and unit trusts, debt and insolvency, trade marks and intellectual property - Wills, trusts, estates and probate: wills and testamentary trusts, powers of attorney, medical treatment decision maker appointments, probate, family provision claims, guardianship - Family law: divorce, financial and property matters, parenting arrangements, child support agreements, binding financial agreements, intervention orders - Employment law: employment agreements, unfair dismissal, adverse action, Fair Work claims, discrimination, award disputes - Litigation and dispute resolution: court proceedings, mediation, arbitration and conciliation conferences Clients deal with a senior lawyer throughout, not a handover down the line. Across Google and LawConnect, the firm holds a 4.9 star rating, and existing and past clients most often mention being kept informed, having the strategy explained, and dealing with people who made a daunting process feel manageable.

With a deep understanding of both retail and commercial leases, the team adeptly handles lease negotiations and disputes, ensuring clients' interests are safeguarded. Their proficiency extends to debt recovery and comprehensive franchising support, aiding in both the establishment and growth of franchise networks. Additionally, KPA Lawyers is well-versed in a variety of business structuring and commercial documentation needs. The firm capably drafts contracts, deeds, and commercial agreements tailored to individual client requirements. Their expertise in managing discretionary and unit trusts complements their services in debt and insolvency challenges. Furthermore, KPA Lawyers' knowledge of intellectual property law aids clients in securing and managing trademarks, providing a robust foundation for protecting business innovations and branding.

Estate Planning

Most people put estate planning off until a life event forces the issue: a diagnosis, a death in the family, a new home, a milestone birthday. In Victoria, the cost of not having the right documents does not fall on you. It falls on the people you leave behind, and in a disputed estate that cost can run into tens of thousands of dollars. KPA Lawyers builds estate plans that hold. That means a will that does what you intend, enduring powers of attorney, a medical treatment decision maker appointment, and where circumstances warrant it, a testamentary trust or a binding superannuation nomination. We advise business owners on succession and company powers of attorney, families on protecting vulnerable beneficiaries, and we work alongside your accountant and financial planner so the plan fits the structures you already have. When a loved one passes, we guide executors and administrators through probate, letters of administration and the full administration of the estate. We also act for and against estates in family provision claims and will disputes, and in guardianship and administration applications. A senior lawyer is involved at every stage. We review existing plans every three to five years, because life moves forward and an old document can quietly stop fitting.

Employment Law

KPA Lawyers offers comprehensive guidance and representation in employment law, catering to the needs of both employers and employees by clarifying their rights and obligations. With a commitment to achieving optimal outcomes, the firm considers the varied and unique factors affecting each case. Their approach prioritises commercial and cost-effective solutions, ensuring that clients receive practical legal advice tailored to their specific circumstances. The firm is experienced in handling a wide range of employment law matters, including the drafting and interpretation of employment and contractor contracts, addressing breaches of contract, as well as dealing with claims related to unfair dismissal and wrongful termination. KPA Lawyers also provides support in cases involving discrimination, bullying, harassment claims, and breaches of equal opportunity laws. Additionally, they offer counsel on general protections, award advice, and underpayment issues, ensuring clients are fully informed and supported throughout their legal journey.
